Our Dogs

We are proud of our males and females here are Cook's Collies!  We are ever striving to breed healthy, beautiful dogs that will go to loving, forever homes and be a wonderful family pet.

Our Boys

A sire has the most influence on a breeding program, because he passes on his genetics to a large number of puppies.  So careful selection of dogs is a must.  We strive to select males that meet the collie standard for conformation in every way, and we use males with a good background of healthy parents.  We genetically test our sires for the most common collie genetic diseases, and then we carefully mate them to females that will compliment those genetics.  On top of all that, our males must be friendly and mannerly.  So a Cook's Collie male must be handsome, healthy, and happy!  (Just the kind of genetics we want to pass on to all of our puppies!)

DNA

DNA testing has become an important part of our breeding process.  These testing tools help us plan litters that we know will be free of Collie Eye Anomaly and PRA.  We are also testing for Grey Collie Syndrome, Degenerative Myelopathy, and MDR1.  It is important to remember that other traits must also be considered when planning a mating.  Conformation, temperament, coat, and other health issues are equally important.  If you have any questions about our breeding program, feel free to contact us anytime.

Our Girls

We couldn't raise beautiful, healthy puppies without the help of our girls!  A Cook's Collies female must be beautiful - meeting the collie standard for conformation.  She must possess a graceful and friendly attitude, and she must have a background free of genetic health issues.  In addition to that, we depend on her to instinctively love and care for her babies. There's nothing sweeter than simply lying beside a new mother as she carefully nurses her newborns, and it never ceases to amaze me how a mother's tender care helps her babies grow plump and healthy - there's no substitute for a great mother!
